WHAT WE DO
Capacity Building
Transforming Journeys Africa (TJ Africa) approaches capacity building from a simple premise: funding without capacity is fragile.
The organisation strengthens the institutional, technical, and leadership capacities of African grassroots organisations, so they can access, manage, and steward resources with confidence, scale their impact, and sustain their missions over the long term. This work complements philanthropy advisory services by ensuring that capital is matched with organisations prepared to deliver.

Fundraising Mindset
Capacity building begins with readiness. TJ Africa supports organisations to align mission, strategy, and fundraising approach, strengthening confidence, positioning, and long-term sustainability in donor engagement.

Grant Readiness & Compliance
TJ Africa delivers targeted support to strengthen grant readiness and compliance, including proposal development, theory of change, and results frameworks. This includes support with budgeting, donor reporting standards, and compliance systems, as well as the development of institutional policies (safeguarding, HR, finance) required by funders.

Financial Systems Strengthening
Strong financial systems are critical to accountability. Capacity building includes setting up or improving financial management tools and processes, training finance teams in grant tracking, forecasting, and risk management, and preparing organisations for audits and financial due diligence.

Monitoring, Evaluation &
Learning (MEL)
TJ Africa supports organisations to design MEL systems that balance local learning with donor reporting requirements. This includes training on context-appropriate impact measurement tools, MEL framework design, and coaching on data use, visualisation, and knowledge management to inform
decision-making.

Leadership, Governance & Organisational Development
Leadership and governance support focuses on long-term institutional strength. This includes board development and governance training, leadership coaching for founders and senior managers, succession planning, and talent development. Work in this area prioritises transparency, accountability, and organisational resilience.

Communications &
Visibility
Capacity building extends to communications and visibility. TJ Africa supports storytelling and narrative development that elevates African voices, alongside training on donor engagement, impact reporting, and digital visibility. This includes guidance on branding, media relations, and social media strategy for grassroots organisations.
